The history of Oakwood Cemetery is intrinsically tied to the stories of the earliest settlers in Austin. Austin Nichols lived and built a cabin on the land, but he didn’t stay for long. Instead, the land became the final resting place for hundreds of Austin and Mower County’s residents.
