The Seventh Annual Terry Dilley Symposium will take place at the Mower County Historical Society on Saturday, October 7, 2023 with the presentation The Chert Quarry Near Grand Meadow: Mower County 1000 Years Ago.

Archaeologist Tom Trow has been working for three years with the Mower County Historical Society an the Dakota Community of Prairie Island at an extraordinary archaeological site east of Austin. Tom will present the latest research about how numerous tribal communities, a thousand years ago used the “chert” or flint from this quarry for making tools-and why this once was the most important place in southeastern Minnesota.

Starting at 11:00am in the Pioneer Building, this talk is FREE and open to the public. A related MCHS museum exhibit in the Administration Building will be open both before and after the presentation.
