The Chert Quarry Near Grand Meadow: Mower County 1000 Years Ago

March 22 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

FREE

Archaeologist Tom Tom has been working for the over three years with the Mower County Historical Society and the Dakota Community of Prairie Island at an extraordinary site northwest of Grand Meadow, originally found by Grand Meadow resident Maynard Green. Tom will present the latest research about the numerous tribal communities who, a thousand years ago, used “chert” (or flint) from this quarry for making tools – and why this once was the most important place in southern Minnesota.

MCHS will also present the special gift to the Grand Meadow Schools during this presentation.

This presentation is FREE and open to the public.
