The Annual Meeting is set for March 22, 2018

Make plans to attend the Annual Meeting and Volunteer Appreciation Event of the Mower County Historical Society on March 22, 2018. Celebrate our accomplishments from 2017 and see what YOUR Historical Society has planned next. Please RSVP by Thursday March 8th by calling 507-437-6083 or email The festivities start at 5:30 Gathering/Dinner, 6:00 Meeting, 7:30 Guest Speaker, Dick Punchard "The G.A.R. in Minnesota". Items on the agenda include voting the change the date of the Annual Meeting from November to March and the election of Board Members for new 3 years terms. Paid members of the Historical Society do have voting rights during the meeting. All members of the Society and volunteers are welcome and encouraged to join us. We hope to see you there! 


Volunteers Needed May 17-20 

The AVTT Traveling Vietnam Wall is coming to the Mower County Fairgrounds in May and the Historical Society is making plans to have several of our buildings open during the special event and we need YOUR HELP! Beyond the Yellow Ribbon-Austin is the offical organizing committee for this event and they are anticipating 10,000 visitors over those 4 days. That means we need volunteers to sign up TODAY for a shift so we can have our buildings opens.

We are also planning a special "Vietnam Exhibit" that will be unveiled in the Headquarters Building for this event. We hope you can join us!

History Happy Hour - March 12th "History of Theatre in Austin"

Our partnership with the Hormel Historic Home and the Austin Public Library continues with History Happy Hour at the Hormel Historic Home at 5:30pm on the second Monday of each month. Our speaker in March 12th will be Randy Forster, Executive Director for the Mower County Historical Society and Co-Executive Diretor for Summerset Theatre talking about the "History of Theatre in Austin."  Learn about the past, the present an the future of Austin theatre! Join us as we explore the early days of Theatre in Austin and how Frank W. Bridges was very instrumental in creating our current theatre community including Summerset and Matchbox Children's Theatre. Doors open at 5:30pm and the event runs from 6-7pm. Everyone is encouraged to wear a Theatre T-Shirt from a past show that you participated in.
